Working with Complex, Multi-Layered Cases

Complex cases often sit at the intersection of multiple systems: immunity, inflammation, hormones, detoxification, metabolism, the nervous system, trauma history, long-term medication effects, and the body’s cumulative burden over a lifetime. In these situations, symptoms rarely follow a single pathway; they are the product of interacting genes, environmental stressors, chronic conditions, and compensatory patterns that have developed over many years.

Through Lifecode Gx testing, I map the genetic architecture that shapes these interactions — including methylation pathways (MTHFR, MTR, MTRR, BHMT, SHMT1) that influence energy, neurotransmitters and detoxification; inflammatory and immune genes such as TNF, IL6, IFNG, HLA subtypes and FUT2, which affect autoimmunity, infection susceptibility and mucosal defence; and detoxification pathways including GSTs, CYP450 variants, SOD2, GPX and NQO1, which determine how well the body clears medications, toxins, and oxidative stress. I also assess hormonal and metabolic regulators such as COMT, MAOA, MAOB, NR3C1, ESR1, and PPARs, which influence stress resilience, steroid responses, blood pressure, lipid metabolism and recovery.

Alongside this, I integrate functional testing — stool, organic acids, adrenal and hormonal panels, cardiometabolic markers, nutrient status, and inflammatory load — to understand the biological terrain beneath the symptoms. Complex cases often reveal patterns such as mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired methylation, chronic infections, dysbiosis, gut permeability, mast-cell activation, impaired bile flow, neuroinflammation, or medication-induced imbalances that need careful unwinding.

But genes and biochemistry are only part of the picture. Complex cases also involve the nervous system’s history — trauma, attachment wounds, chronic pain cycles, autonomic dysregulation, emotional overwhelm, medical trauma, and the psychological impact of long-term illness. I work relationally and therapeutically to help clients make sense of their story, reduce fear, support resilience, and reconnect with their own agency and healing capacity.

By bringing together genetics, functional medicine, nutritional therapy, homeopathy, trauma-informed therapeutic work, medication mapping, and your lived experience, I create a personalised, phased roadmap for stabilisation, recovery and long-term health. This work is slow, layered and collaborative - but for many people, especially those who have “fallen through the gaps,” it is the first time their whole story, whole biology and whole self are held in one place.
